Questions About How To End A Letter In French

Daniel asks…

How exactly should I start and end this French letter?

I am writing to a kid in France for school in French. This is my second year in this class and I haven't really learned how I should form the letter. Its a boy in his teens 13-16 I believe and his name is Rodolphe Tang Lim. This is a social letter meaning writing to talk and get to know one another. Variety of choices of what to say and defining everything so I can understand will give best answer. NO online translators. I am here to learn not to have things given to me.

admin answers:

Hi,

First of all to start your letter you can use

Cher Rodolphe,

Comment vas-tu ( how are you ? ) Je m'appelle ( your name ) j'ai ( your age, e.g. 16 ans ) ... Je suis en 4ème ( 9th grade...). J'ai un chien ( I have a dog ), je pratique la danse ...

Linda asks…

How to end a french introduction letter to a penpal?

We're getting penpals for our french class, and it's due tomorrow. The letter is entirely written up, I just don't know how to end it since the terms for that are different in french and I don't want it to be weird.
something like "I look forward to hearing back from you," or something.
Thank you!

admin answers:

Your letter is personal correspondence so you have several possibilities as an ending. Since you have not had any previous contact with the person, you would use "vous" not "tu" and "toi", until you both decide to "tutoyer" one another. Here are some common examples for endings. The first three mean "Best wishes":

Bien cordialement à vous
Bien amicalement à vous
Meilleures Amitiés
Bien des choses - 'All the best"

En esperant recevoir bientôt de vos nouvelles - "Looking forward to hearing from you"
Remerciements anticipés - "Thanks in anticipation"

Ruth asks…

How do you end a letter in french. The letter is to friends of mine (two parents, and two children my own age)

admin answers:

If it's for a friend you could say :

A la prochaine.

Donna asks…

How to end a formal letter in French?

admin answers:

The best is "Veuillez agréer, Madame, Monsieur, mes salutations distinguées."
We don't use "sincèrement" unless you know the person you're addressing the letter to personally.

Paul asks…

how do you say "P.S" (at the end of a letter) in French?

I'm writing a letter to my pen pal in France.

How can I add something at the end that I missed out?
Thanks!

admin answers:

Roy is right : it's a Latin abbreviation for 'post scriptum', and it's used in all countries with our roman alphabet.

Questions About How To End A Letter Of Recommendation

Mandy asks…

Is it rude to ask a teacher to hurry up and finish a letter of recommendation?

So I have asked one of my teachers to write a letter of recommendation for me and at the time when I asked her, I said that she didn't really have a deadline because all the other teachers I have asked before have gotten it done within a few days. She is a new teacher, so maybe she doesn't realize the partial urgency? However, I really need the letter by the end of the week, so would it be rude for me to ask her to hurry up? How should I ask?

admin answers:

@ the mature law student, in england, There are universities which require application by december (one of which I applied to). The year before the start of their next term.

The best way to do it is just ask politely (previously mentioned perfectly. Stick to the point, not off-topic., but try and get and get a number date as well. The most important thing, though, in my opinion, is to write something down about it in front of them, with an actual date. This will help you get the seriousness across subtly, while making it seem casual and friendly. I've done this to get so many different things finished, I can't keep count.

Richard asks…

How do I remind a teacher that a due-date for a letter of recommendation she said she'd write is approaching?

I need the letter by the end of the week. She agreed to write it in the beginning of March. How do I gently remind her (in an email) that the due-date is approaching? I don't want to sound rude or pushy! ;_;
She's foreign, btw, so I'm especially worried I'll sound rude!

admin answers:

I sent an email basically as follows when the same thing happened to me:

"Dear _______,

I'm just writing to remind you that my recommendation for _____ is due on Friday. Please let me know if you need any more information to complete it.

Thanks again for agreeing to recommend me."

Worked for me. Good luck--I've been there and the waiting game is no fun.

John asks…

how to make a letter of recommendation for a teacher?

i want to make a letter of recommendation for an outstanding teacher of mine last year, how will i start the letter? how will i end?

what type of introduction will i use?
how about greeting?
would it be "to whom it may concern"?

admin answers:

Indicate why you believe that this teacher is outstanding.

In the introduction indicate how you have known the teacher and for how long.

Your conclusion may be a summary about how this teacher is so outstanding./

Susan asks…

How would you write a good letter of recommendation?

Is there like a certain way to write a letter of recommendation? How would you write the beginning middle and end?

admin answers:

You can google recommendation letter formats on line and may find a template. I usually start by saying how pleased I am to recommend (whomever) for ..(whatever, college, club, job.).. Follow up by outlining how long and under what circumstances you know the person.. Body should be what traits/achievements the person has that would make them an asset to wherever you are recommending them.. Conclude with your personal contact email or phone if there are any follow ups questions you would be happy to speak with them personally.. Hope this helps.

Mark asks…

How far in advance should I ask a person for a recommendation letter?

I am currently a student and working as an assistant teacher. Over this past school year I have gotten to know some of the parents and would like to ask them for a recommendation letter. How far in advance should I ask for it BEFORE the end of the school year (mid-June)! Any ideas let me know!

admin answers:

I'm in high school, and I have to put together a portfolio to graduate, including 2 recomendation letters. I started asking when I found out, about April 6, and its due May 16. Give them enough time so that they don't feel too pressured.

Edit: I don't know what grade your assisting, but you could suggest it as an assignment that the children write one also. If I was trying to hire a teacher, I would consider how the kids felt about you as well as the parents.

Steven asks…

what do i have to write at the end of a letter in Italian?

i know it's different in Italian. how do i say have a nice day or have a wonderful day? i want something that can end an email. This is for my boyfriends mom who is Italian.
so please help me.
thank you

admin answers:

You suck guys... What does BACCIO mean?!?!? It is not even italian... The right transation of KISS is BACIO but at the end of a letter u r not gonan write just one kiss but u r gonna write KISSES and the right transaltion is BACI. Also the second answer suck... It really seems coming from GOOGLE TRANSLATE because "Che lei abbia una buona giornata" it is completely wrong, it doesnt mean anything at all, instead LE AUGURO UNA BUONA GIORNATA is perfectly right. But dont worry dudes it is good to try...

PS: "La ringrazio per il tempo che hai dedicato alla lettura della mia lettera, a presto, ciao" THIS IS PERFECT but if it is ur boyfreind's mom u r gonna have a more confidentail behavior and it is even better write TI RINGRAZION PER IL TEMPO DEDICATO ALLA LETTURA DELLA LETTERA, A PRESTO, CIAO

·!¦[·Ålαи ¢øи ѕµ þяøρια νøz·]¦!· SPERO CHE LEI ABBIA UNA BUONA GIORNATA is perfect too or ABBIA UNA BUONA GIORNATA but as i said before it is ur boyfreind's mom and it is better say SPERO CHE HAI UNA BUONA GIORNATA

Charles asks…

Italian letter writing?

Please could anyone tell me how to start and end a letter in Italian?
Is there a rule like Yours sincerely/Faithfully?

thank you :)

admin answers:

It depends on what kind of letter you are writing. If it's informal, e.g. You're writing to a close friend or a relative, you would start by ''Caro/Cara'' or ''Mio caro/mia cara'' [male/female]. You would end the letter with ''baci'' (kisses), ''abbraci'' (hugs), ''un bacione'' or ''saluti e baci'' (greetings and kisses) or simply ''A presto'', ''Ci vediamo'' = See you soon.

You could also use ''carissimo/carissima'' if you're extremely close to that person.

If you're writing a formal letter, however, that's where you have to be careful.
The most common openings are ''Gentile Signore/Signora'' (alternatively Egregio Signore/Signora).
But if the person you're writing to holds a title (doctor, professor, lawyer, etc.), then you MUST acknowledge it in the opening of your letter, meaning:

Dottore/Dottoressa - Professore/Professoressa - Avvocato/Avvocata, etc.

E.g.: Professore Puglisi, [...]

Finally, you would end your letter most commonly by ''Distinti saluti'', which would translate as ''Best/Kind Regards'' in English.
If you wish to add ''Thank you in advance'', that would be:

Grazie in anticipo/Grazie fin d'ore/Grazie anticipate

Hope this helped!

Richard asks…

How to say 'I love you, Grandma' in Italian?

My grandmother passed away this Tuesday and I'm writing a letter to place with her. I'd like to end the letter with "I love you, Grandma' in Italian because she used to teach me words in Italian when I was little and this was something very special between us. Could someone please help make sure I get this right? Thanks.

admin answers:

"Ti amo" is only used between lovers.
If you're addressing a relative or a friend you must say "ti voglio bene".
In this case, the sentence would be "ti voglio bene, nonna".
