Why is Adobe PDF so popular? It's slow as hell!?
I've noticed that no matter how fast a computer I used, PDF documents take forever to load (compared to MS Word) and even after they open, they scroll choppily and jaggedly like you're using a 1ghz processor.
If that crap is so slow, why does everyone use it. It's the biggest epic fail of modern software technology.
Jeez, if someone doesn't want you to edit a document, just make a read only mode in MS word...

It is portable and works on every device. It is made to work on various environments. Like a mobile device or even other operating systems.
Personally I find SumatraPDF pdf reader works a lot faster then adobe's pdf reader and without the feature bloat.

How to disable selectable text in my PDF - so its like a photo?
Hi there, I am new to the Adobe PDF software and I want to create a PDF from a word document. (so far I have done this). But i want my PDF so that the text cannot be selected and copied then pasted back into word where the recepient could edit my text/figures.
Thanks in adv!

You will have to go back to the word document and when you create the pdf you have to adjust the pdf settings so that the pdf file is protected - not sure what pdf writer you have (adobe?) but there should be a security tab where you can select a type of encryption and what do you want to allow the user to do (you can disable in there the text copying).

I made a catalog/booklet using "works" word processing. I need to get it into "pdf" how can I do that?
The booklet/catalog has pictures and a small caption. Its about 10 pages long. I need to send this to someone else, but they can only receive it in pdf. They need it for editing a proofing. Is there a way I can transfer my "works" document to adobe "pdf"?

You can find freeware and shareware programs to create PDF files (which is what you need).
This one is open source and free:

More freeware and shareware:

Hope this all helps.
