Questions About How To Find Slope On Graph

Joseph asks…

How do I find the slope to this graph?

Graph the line containing the given pair.
(6, 4) and (-1, -2)
I know how to find the coordinates on the graph, but how do I find the slope? What does m equal? It needs to be an interger, or a simplified fraction.

admin answers:

The slope is 6/7 (a fraction)

You find it by taking a Y and subtracting the other Y and then the same thing with the X's

I did it like this: -2-4=-6 -1-6=-7

a negative over a negative is a positive so it is positive six over seven. (six sevenths)

David asks…

How do I find a slope in a graph?

On my math homework, I have to find the slope, X-intercept and the Y-intercept.
How?

admin answers:

Well, we need some inputs, ha?

If the linear equation is given as
y=mx+n then
m is the slope
and to find the x intercept give y zero (y=0) in the equation and find x.
To find y intercept give x zero (x=0) in the equation. (the y intercept is n, btw)

if the linear equation is not given, but two points are given then you can use the formula below to find the equation, then you can find slope, x intercept and y intercept with the methods written above.

A(x1,y1)
B(x2,y2)

(x-x1)/(x2-x1)=(y-y1)/(y2-y1)

Charles asks…

how do you find the slope of a line on a graph?

i need someone to explain to me in retard terms since that is what i feel like, how to find the slope on a graph.

admin answers:

Idk how you mean so here are two different things but i think you mean the second one

if it was y=3x + 2, then 2 would be the y intercept and 3 would be the slope. Slope is rise over run so when you graph this equation you would put the dot on positive two on the y-axis and go up three, over one scince 3 is essentially 3/1.

If you have a pair of points (lets say (3,3) and (1,2)) then put the y's (the second numbers in the pair) over the x's and subtract. If it doesnt give any coordinates and it's just a line with points on it, pick two of the points and follow the same directions

ex.
3-2/3-1
=1/2

1/2 would be your slope

Ruth asks…

How to find the slope on graph with no coordinate points?

so the slope of line with no coordinate points

admin answers:

The line must be parallel or perpendicular to a given line :)

Lisa asks…

How do you find slope and Y-Intercept on graph when you cant tell accurate #'s?

I know you have to divide 2 numbers somehow?

admin answers:

Do you have an example? Check out my eHow article on how to find the slope of a line, given two points on that line:
http://www.ehow.com/how_5174981_calculate-given-two-points-line.html

slope=change in y/change in x=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
