Since you upgraded to 4.1 via iTunes, you automatically lost your chance of using a different GSM carrier besides AT&T. I found that the BEST jailbreak for the 3G is Redsn0w:

Download the firmware file from www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/ - of course select the one for yours which is
iphone 3g 1_2 4.1

Download Redsn0w 0.9.6, google it and search for your mac version or windows

run Redsn0w , browse for the firmware file you just download, select and follow directions carefully
Then you should be done, note youtube will not work but it will once you run CYDIA and look for Youtube fix- thats another answer for another question

OK to jail break it download redsn0w on Your computer, also download a program called ipod restore i will provide links below. Yes there are noticeable programs when you first Jailbreak it: 1 being winterboard, which is where you can customize your theme, background etc.... Also Installous is an app where you download app store apps completely free. Last but not least the app bluetooth( which Iphone dont ORIGANY have idk y). For at&t depending on if you have unlimited data download your bill may be a bit higher. No AT&T will not take your phone away, so many people do it.

i recently upgrade my iphone 3g from os 4.0 to OS 4.1 and i can't find any way jailbreak it...!!!
and i also tried redsn0w but when i brows my frimware it says "Unable to recognize specified IPSW"!!!! please help me
any idea????any new method???

You don't & can't possibly have iOS 4.1. That is still under development from Apple, unless you downloaded one of the betas, in which case it would be obvious you can't jailbreak an unreleased version of the software.

If it is that you put a typo & actually have iOS 4.0.1 then just go to www.jailbreakme.com through Safari & you could jailbreak it there.

Jailbreak iPhone 3G with Firmware 4.1?

I have a iPhone 3G and was hoping to just update it to Firmware 4.0 but couldn't find a ware and the buggy 3.1.3 was just getting on my nerves a little to much so i was hoping i could jailbreak 4.1. I tried using redsn0w and firmware 4.0 like one guide suggested and it did indeed jailbreak my firmware 4.1 BUT deleted the phone half. i could only receive calls... so what good is that?! so currently my iphone is back to restored state with 4.1 on it... does anyone have any ideas how to successfully jailbreak it? thanks!
