Questions About How To Bake A Potato Tin Foil

Ruth asks…

Sweet Potato's verses Yams? Same or Not? baking?

How in the world do you bake a sweet potato? I put 2 in the over on 350 for over an hour. I put them in a pan with a little bit of water. I took them out and the skin was moist and slippery. The inside was strange and not even edible.
Can someone please tell me how to bake a sweet potato, yam are they the same? is there a certain one that is made for baking? Do i have to use the tin foil?
Thanks

admin answers:

Well you can bake a yam or a sweet potato
and yes i would defiantly suggest wrapping it in tin foil - thats basically all you need to do - wash it - peel it if you like - wrap it up and toss in the oven for a bit - an hr or so depending on the size - check it around about an hr by squeezing it to see if its soft - if yes good job take it out.. If not toss it back in for a bit longer and repeat the checking process after about 20 more mins.
I have never heard of anyone putting them in a baking dish with water...

Mark asks…

How do you feel about me doing this?

What if I were to take some sweet potatoes, peel them, dice them up into cubes of 1-2 inches, and put them in the crock pot for 8.5 hours while I go to work? Would it be delicious?

I usually wrap my sweet potatoes in tin foil and bake for an hour but if I used the crock pot it would be ready as soon as I got home. Also I wouldn't have to feel like I'm wasting so much tin foil. I put some chicken breasts in the crock pot today and was exceedingly happy with the results. I couldn't even pick a single breast out of the crock pot without it falling apart it was so tender!
Or, if less time would be better, should I put them in when I come home for my lunch break? Then I could have them in for only 4.5 hours.

I think you would get sweet potato mush. Might be good for a toddler, but cooking for less time you will keep their texture and bite.

If you insist on cooking them in the crock pot, a sweet potato stew would be best.

Sandra asks…

Could Baking Chicken....?

I'm making dinner tonight and my dad wants me to try a recipe that I use on pork, on the bonless skinless chicken breast that I have (4 of them)
Now what I do with the pork loins is, is that I cover them in BBQ sauce (or mustarted) and I wrap them in tin foil and preheat the oven to about 475 and there done in 15 mins. With the chicken, I'm going to try and cook some potato wedges at the same time, I was thinking of doing the exact same thing except putting the oven at 425.......can I bake the chicken at this temperature? And for how long? Can I bake two things at the same time?

admin answers:

Oh yes!! That sounds so good too...just leave the chicken in longer thats all..bet the chicken on the bottom and the wedges on the top. Hope it comes out well :)
