How do I crochet a baby hat that's 17" circumference?
I've watched videos on Youtube of how to make a baby hat, I got that pretty down packed. But I can't find any videos or other information of how to change the size of the hat. I measured, and I need a hat that measures 17" circumference. I've tried to change the size, but end up crocheting a hat that's too big and wide. I prefer a hat that's exactly like this, but a little bigger. .

Any advice? Thanks!

That hat is made by starting with a ring and continuing in spiral rounds. To increase from the preemie size to a 17" circumference, you will need to complete more increase rounds. You'd need to continue the increase pattern until the circle has a diameter of 5-1/2 inches. Then stop increasing and make every round the same number of stitches until you have the depth you want.
You can also increase the size a little bit by just using a hook that's one size larger. In this particular instance, though, you need more of an increase than just using a larger hook is going to provide.

I need help making a crocheted baby hat...?
I'm making a set of hats for my twin nieces. They will go along with a pair of booties and a blanket for each girl. I'm just not sure of what size to make. My brain is so fuzzled! They were born at 6 pounds something each, so a little smaller than your typical newborn. However, they are a week old now. I haven't seen them yet to try anything on or measure their heads. The hat pattern I'm using is for a rounded-top hat with a small brim and "lace" trim. It isn't meant to be folded up and I don't want it to go down over their eyes. The main part of the hat uses a 1/2 double crochet stitch, which combined with the baby yarn I'm using, makes for a pretty stretchy hat. But, as any crocheter knows, stretching out also means stretching up. So I'm just not sure how long to make these hats. I have a chart that says the hat length (measured with the hat flattened from the top to bottom of one side) for a newborn around 8 pounds is 5.5 - 6 in. That seems so long to me! Head Circumference 13" - 14 " hat circ = 11.5" - 13" Those are the other measurements for the same size. So can anyone offer any advice or tell me about what size I should make them? I've finished one pair of booties, one blanket, and most of one hat. So I still have another set to go. With my time schedule, that took me about 1 week...so I'm figuring on them being 3-4 weeks once I get everything to them...if that helps.
Ok, that's great then. It really did just seem huge to me. I was afraid I had run into another homeade chart that just wasn't accurate. I was making children's clothes, and found a chart that was way off base and it was a disaster. Thanks for the reassurance!

Those sizes seem about right. I knit with a group knitting hats for newborns, and we are aiming at 14" to 15" in circumference to fit babies in the 8- to 10-pound range. The length is typically 5.5" to 6". So you're crocheting in the same ballpark where the group I knit with is knitting. One thing is sure--a bit too big is better than any amount too small, because they are going to grow!

What is the easiest way to make baby hats?
What is easiest way to make baby hats?? Crochet, knitting, or looming? I don't know which is easier.
I do know how to knit but I am not familiar with the crochet or looming. I want to make baby hats for a hobie because it might be fun plus there is always family or friends having a baby so it will be a nice gift. Thank you!
PS if you know a website with instructions or with a video that will be helpful too!

Easiest way? Looming.
Most versatile method of achieving cute baby hats? Crocheting.
Most satisfying method of making warm, stylish hats? Knitting. Besides, yoiu already know how to knit, so that's the logical choice for you.
There are lots of patterns available for free on the Internet for all three methods. Why don't you look at the patterns and decide which ones YOU think are adorable enough to invest the time you'll be investing?

Crochet/knitting question..?
I am 29 weeks pregnant and I get sooo bored when my boyfriend is at work. I found the cutest little hats and blankets online that people have knitted for their babies for sale. I have NO idea how to knit/crochet and was wondering how hard it would be and how long it would take for a beginner to knit hats like this...

Sorry, I don't know how to link websites.
admin answers:
Both your links show crocheted hats that would be within the skill level of a beginner with the possible exception of the Irish crochet rose on the first hat.
If you live near a yarn shop that offers lessons or a craft store, recreation center, adult education program, or any other source of free or inexpensive lessons in crochet or knitting, your best option by far is to sign up for lessons. Nothing replaces a skilled, experienced needleworker in spotting technique insufficiencies, pattern misinterpretations, and so on in time to prevent your making them a habit. If that's not possible, I usually recommend these on-line sources for instruction:
